The West Point Police Department Communication/Emergency 911 Division is responsible for answering both emergency and non-emergency calls for service. The Communication Operators dispatch Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Service (EMS). They also answer Animal Control calls and dispatch the Animal Control Officer to the requested location. Due to the nature of the job, the Communications Division is in operation 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Understanding 911
The following guidelines should be followed when asking for assistance or reporting an incident in the City of West Point.
The citizens of West Point should call 9-1-1 to report any incident that requires immediate dispatch of Police, Fire or an ambulance.
When to call 9-1-1:
- Medical Emergency
- Fire
- Motor vehicle accidents
- Suspicious vehicles or persons
- To report incidents of auto theft, burglary, rape, arson, assault, robbery, shoplifting, disturbances, theft, domestics or domestic violence, fights, missing persons, shootings, stabbings, destruction of property, all crimes in progress or crimes that just occurred
- To report road hazards, drunk drivers, reckless drivers, wires down, or tornados
- Whenever LIFE or PROPERTY is endangered
